About me
Hi, I'm James Oxford, MA, LMHC.
I'm the founder of Natura Psychotherapy. I work with adults who feel stuck in patterns of anxiety, self-doubt, people-pleasing, perfectionism, or relationship difficulties. Many of the people I work with are also wrestling with bigger questions about identity, meaning, and what they want from life.
I believe therapy can be a place to better understand yourself, strengthen your relationships, and move toward a life that feels more authentic, connected, and meaningful.
My Approach to Therapy
My approach is collaborative, reflective, and practical. I believe many of the struggles that bring people to therapy are rooted in patterns that once helped us cope, connect, or protect ourselves, but no longer serve us in the ways they once did.
Together, we'll work to understand those patterns, explore how they shape your relationships and sense of self, and develop new ways of responding to life's challenges. While I draw from existential and psychodynamic perspectives, my focus is less on theory and more on helping you create meaningful change in your everyday life.
I believe empowerment and self-compassion are essential ingredients for growth. Therapy isn't about becoming someone else—it's about understanding yourself more fully and learning how you want to move through the world.
Who I Work With
While I welcome adults from all backgrounds, I particularly enjoy working with individuals who are naturally curious and reflective, including neurodivergent adults, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as artists, musicians, writers, and other creative individuals. Many of the people I work with are interested not only in reducing symptoms, but also in better understanding themselves, their relationships, and what gives their life meaning and direction.
A Little Bit About Me
Outside of the therapy office, creativity plays an important role in my life. I enjoy writing, reading, recording and mixing music, 35 mm photography, and the occasional retro video game. I'm also a devoted cat dad, an avid weekend cyclist, and someone who tries—sometimes more successfully than others—to maintain a daily walking and yoga practice.
My background in music and art has shaped how I approach therapy. It has taught me the value of curiosity, expression, and honoring each person's unique voice and perspective.
